20 Minutes and Europa Press: The USJ presents a project to develop innovative programs to prevent musculoskeletal disorders.
The San Jorge University presented this Thursday, at the headquarters of the San Valero Group, the Prevent4Work project. This is an initiative funded by the European Union, within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, which includes an international consortium of companies and universities. Its objective is to develop innovative educational programs that can be applied in the EU to prevent musculoskeletal disorders related to the workplace.
“The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) has identified that musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are one of the most common work-related diseases, and affect millions of workers across Europe, which represents billions of euros for companies”, explained the head of the iPhysio Research Group of the San Jorge University and coordinator of the European Prevent4Work project, Pablo Herrero. Specifically, one in four workers experience some kind of musculoskeletal pain in the EU. Within the framework of this initiative, a network of contacts between the academic world, institutions related to occupational health, health technology companies and companies from different sectors has been established to share experiences and establish channels of collaboration.
TOOLS
The Knowledge Alliance (KA) Prevent4Work wants to establish a network that develops innovative educational programs and adaptive tools for mHealth (mobile health) in line with the needs of workers and businesses in different sectors. “Among other actions, symposiums are going to take place in Italy, Denmark and Spain, an Ideas Contest, workshops and training courses for health professionals and workers, a practical guide for trainers and a strategic guide for the integration of courses in curricula of universities”, added Pablo Herrero. Likewise, “the additional mission of the project is to make known that musculoskeletal injuries must not only be approached from a physical point of view, but also a global vision that includes psychosocial and educational factors, daily habits, routines.” To do this, he has continued, we must analyze why pain occurs and how to prevent it. “On this matter, we are working on the creation of educational videos, as well as an app that allows us to customize an individualized educational and intervention program for each worker.”
PARTNERS
The consortium is made up of different partners from the academic and business world. Specifically, the San Jorge University, the University of Aalborg and the University College of Northern Denmark, which will create knowledge and teach new generations of students and develop new training activities in the future, the USJ said in a note Press. In addition, the following involved companies, GeoSLab, INP Training and VITECO, will develop a mobile application and teaching platform, together with universities, implementing new training programs and teaching methods. Thus, they can create and offer innovative services related to ICT and health covering the identified needs. It is also formed by a private non-profit entity, Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi (IOG), which will validate and test the best practices and technologies available with a large number of users.
